Congratulations to Judge Janice Rosa and Barbara Babb, JD, for their Recent AFCC Honors!

On May 27, Judge Janice M. Rosa (Ret.), was presented the Meyer Elkin Essay Award from the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) at the 52nd Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Meyer Elkin Essay Award is presented to the author(s) of the article judged as the best of those published in the Family Court Review for each volume. The winner is selected by the Family Court Review editorial staff. 

Judge Rosa retired after nearly twenty years on the trial bench in Buffalo, New York and continues her work to find better outcomes for individuals and families entering the court system. She has served on the NCJFCJ Board of Directors, is a member and past Chair of the NCJFCJ Family Violence and Domestic Relations Advisory Board and is the current Chair of the NCJFCJ Curriculum Development Committee. A prolific writer and trainer for the NCJFCJ and numerous other organizations throughout the country, Judge Rosa has not rested on her laurels. 

Additionally, Barbara A. Babb, JD, Director of the Sayra and Neil Meyerhoff Center for Families, Children and the Courts and Associate Professor of Law at the University of Baltimore, School of Law, was awarded the AFCC Stanley Cohen Distinguished Research Award during the same ceremony. 

Ms. Babb is a member of the NCJFCJ Curriculum Development Committee and long time supporter of the organization. The Stanley Cohen Distinguished Research Award is sponsored by the Oregon Family Institute. The award was created to recognize outstanding research and/or research achievements in the field of family and divorce. The award is named for the late Dr. Stanley Cohen, founding member of AFCC who served as executive director and co-editor of the Family Court Review.
