OJJDP SRAD National Conference Convenes in Nashville

OJJDP Administrator J. Robert FloresOn August 18, OJJDP Administrator J. Robert Flores addressed the OJJDP State Relations and Assistance Division (SRAD) National Conference, which is being held August 18-20 in Nashville, TN. The conference informs and trains State Advisory Group members, juvenile justice specialists, and other juvenile justice related professionals. Mr. Flores commended their efforts and reaffirmed OJJDP's commitment to fostering interagency collaborations at the federal, state, and local levels and to building of effective partnerships between the public and private sectors.

Bulletin Examines Transfer of Juveniles to Criminal Courts
OJJDP announces the availability of “Juvenile Transfer Laws: An Effective Deterrent to Delinquency?” In an effort to strengthen sanctions for serious juvenile crimes, most states enacted laws expanding the types of offenders and offenses eligible for transfer from juvenile courts to adult criminal courts. This bulletin provides an overview of research examining the deterrent effects of such transfers, focusing on OJJDP-funded studies. The information it provides should help inform policy decisions.More icon

Sexual Violence Reported in Juvenile Corrections

The Office of Justice Program's Bureau of Justice Statistics has published the report “Sexual Violence Reported by Juvenile Correctional Authorities 2005-06.” The report presents data from the 2005 and 2006 Survey on Sexual Violence, an administrative records collection of incidents of youth-on-youth and staff-on-youth sexual violence reported to juvenile correctional authorities.
