The NCJFCJ is working with the Annie E. Casey Foundation's Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative to help provide information to judges on alternatives to detention. The JDAI Initiative is dedicated to giving youth involved in the juvenile justice system opportunities to develop into healthy, productive adults through core strategies such as:

* Collaboration
* Reliance on Data
* Objective Admission Screening
* Alternatives to Secure Detention
* Expedited Case Processing
* Strategies for "Special" Detention Cases
* Rigorous Facility Inspections
* Strategies to Reduce Racial Disparities

On Dec. 5, 2005, the NCJFCJ and the Annie E. Casey Foundation presented a free one-day training, "The Juvenile Alternative Initiative Model for Detention Reform" in Window Rock, Arizona, for juvenile courts and related disciplines on current trends and best practices in detention reform and delinquency courts.

Videos and written materials are available to interested judges or juvenile departments. Additional information is available through the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
