The Family Violence Department (FVD) projects are funded by grants from a variety of public and private sources. Grant periods vary from one to five years. These supporters recognize the importance of the work being done by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and its Family Violence Department.

Government Funding Sources:

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)

HHS funds a variety of programs aimed at protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. HHS has been a pioneer in recognizing the adverse health effects domestic violence has on American families. To this end, they exclusively fund the Resource Center on Domestic Violence: Child Protection and Custody and were a major contributor to the FVD's national conference on domestic violence and child maltreatment.

U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)

Office for Victims of Crime, Office of Justice Programs (OVC)

OVC funds programs that improve the accessibility and quality of services to crime victims. The FVD has received support from OVC for innovative projects on domestic violence fatality reviews, effective interventions in domestic violence and child maltreatment cases, and full faith and credit issues.

Office on Violence Against Women (OVW)

OVW is a major source of funding for services for battered women, domestic violence training, and prevention services. OVW has provided leadership in the field through the many FVD projects it has funded and continues to fund, including the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence, Full Faith and Credit: Moving Forward, Support for the Pivotal Line of Protection Technical Assistance to the Judges in the Judicial Oversight Demonstration Initiative, and the Interagency Collaboration to Address Domestic Violence and Child Maltreatment.

State Justice Institute (SJI)

The SJI awards grants to improve the quality of justice in state courts and has been extremely supportive of many of the FVD's judicial education endeavors. SJI funds have helped the FVD host numerous national conferences and develop special projects designed to assist courts and communities in responding to domestic violence. SJI currently funds a Judge's Guide to Navigating Custody and Visitation Evaluations in Domestic Violence Cases.

Private Funding Sources

The Ford Foundation

The Ford Foundation is a resource for innovative people and institutions worldwide. The Ford Foundation's goals are to strengthen democratic values, reduce poverty and injustice, promote international cooperation, and advance human achievement. In its efforts to meet these goals, the Ford Foundation has kindly provided support for a national conference on effective interventions in domestic violence and child maltreatment cases.

Conrad N. Hilton Foundation (Hilton Foundation)

The Hilton Foundation's mission is to alleviate human suffering. In keeping with its mission, the Hilton Foundation was the sole funding source of the FVD's Model Code on Domestic and Family Violence and the Model Code Implementation Project.

Johnson Foundation

The Johnson Foundation makes use of its resources to convene conferences on issues selected as priorities of its Board of Trustees. It generously supported the FVD's Advisory Committee Meeting on domestic violence and child maltreatment at Wingspread, the Johnson Foundation's headquarters and educational center.

David and Lucile Packard Foundation (Packard Foundation)

One of the program areas funded through the Packard Foundation is "children, families, and communities." Realizing that domestic violence is a critical issue to children, families, and communities, the Packard Foundation has been instrumental in funding a host of projects designed to reform case practice involving both domestic violence and child maltreatment.

Charles H. Stout Foundation (Stout Foundation)

The Stout Foundation is a family foundation that supports a variety of services in the Reno, Nevada area. It generously supports the FVD with operating and computer equipment funds.
