A partnership of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Family Violence Prevention Fund, and the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Violence Against Women. Mission With renewed and increased Office of Violence Against Women (OVW) funding in 2004, the National Judicial Institute on Domestic Violence (NJIDV) will develop a continuum of education - practical, academic, and collaborative - that engages a critical mass of state court judges and judicial officers in: learning how to identify and resolve issues that arise in court cases involving violence against women and children, exercising leadership to end and prevent violence against women and children in the community, and advancing the state of knowledge about how the justice system can intervene in and prevent violence against women and children.
The Judicial Institute involves a broad range of professionals, including judges, attorneys, advocates, academics, mental health experts, social scientists, and community representatives, in designing and delivering projects and programs for the judiciary. Institute programs focus primarily on enhancing the knowledge and skills of law-trained, trial court judges and judicial officers (commissioners, referees, etc).
