EFFECTIVE PROSECUTION OF INTERSTATE STALKING WEBINAR The Family Violence Department of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ), in partnership with the National Center on Protection Orders and Full Faith and Credit (NCPOFFC), is hosting a webinar for judges, prosecutors and other professionals to explore the federal crime of interstate stalking.
In 1994 the US legislature recognized that intimate partner violence is a national issue and passed the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Part of VAWA is the federal crime of interstate stalking. Stalking is a crime that is often misunderstood, minimized or missed entirely. Interstate stalking can be challenging to investigate and prosecute, but is a very valuable tool for holding offenders accountable for stalking behavior that occurs across state lines, international borders or boundaries of Indian Country. This webinar will walk through the federal interstate stalking statute and discuss the issues and challenges related to federal prosecution of stalking.
Please join presenter Jodi Rafkin from the Stalking Resource Center, NCJFCJ, and NCPOFFC for this hour-long webinar starting at 3:00 p.m. Eastern on Monday February 22, 2010.
