The State Justice Institute, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Center for Effective Public Policy announce an education opportunity for judicial officers to better manage juvenile sex offense cases. This model judicial education curriculum, entitled “Managing Juvenile Sex Offense Cases: Keys to Informed Decisionmaking,” provides juvenile and family court judges a unique opportunity to gain practical information that can enhance their day-to-day decisionmaking in these challenging cases. Pilot trainings of this new curriculum were held in 2006, and since then, many judges and judicial educators across the country have expressed a desire to host this event in their own states. Funding from the State Justice Institute will enable the delivery of several statewide judicial education events in 2007 and 2008 utilizing the curriculum. Interested states or tribal jurisdictions will be selected through a competitive application process. Application kits are now available and include two separate deadlines to accommodate states’ interests in or preferences for hosting this model program in either 2007 or 2008. Application deadlines: • The first application deadline is Monday, July 16, 2007 for states that are interested in convening this event in 2007.
• States that would like to host the judicial education program during 2008 must submit applications by Monday, October 8, 2007. Please click here for more information on the curriculum.
