8/14/08 -- NCJFCJ is pleased to announce that Dr. Patricia Campie has recently joined its research division, the Pittsburgh-based National Center for Juvenile Justice, as the Center's Director. Dr. Campie accepted the position at NCJJ following a nationwide search. Former NCJJ Director Hunter Hurst retired in May after 34 years as NCJJ's first and only director. According to Judge Maurice B. Cohill, Jr., a Senior U.S. District Court Judge in Pittsburgh and Chairman of NCJJ's Board of Fellows, "Under Hunter Hurst's leadership, the National Center for Juvenile Justice has become the premier and primary source of knowledge and technical assistance for the federal government, judges, court-related personnel, and child-case agencies, not to mention academic researchers. Hunter is going to be a tough act to follow, but after interviewing a number of candidates, we are convinced that Dr. Campie is the right person for the job." Dr. Campie was born in Philadelphia, but her academic and professional life has primarily been in Arizona. She has a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice Administration, a Master's degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, all from the University of Arizona.
