The National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ), a non-profit organization headquartered in Reno, NV, pursues a mission to improve courts and systems’ practice and raise awareness of the core issues that touch the lives of many of our nation’s children and families. A leader in continuing education opportunities, research, publication development, technical assistance, and policy development in the field of juvenile and family justice, the NCJFCJ is unique in providing practice-based resources to jurisdictions and communities nationwide. The Family Violence Department (FVD) of the NCJFCJ focuses its work on providing cutting-edge training, technical assistance, and policy development, and on enabling the collaboration of domestic violence professionals on a national level. FVD’s mission is: to improve the way courts, law enforcement agencies, and others respond to family violence, while recognizing the legal, cultural, and psychological dynamics involved, with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of domestic violence victims and their children. FVD staff work collaboratively in a team setting, both internally and interdepartmentally, to achieve its mission. FVD is seeking a Policy Analyst III to join its multi-disciplinary and highly dedicated team. Requirements for the position include a degree from an accredited four-year college or university and previous experience in domestic violence service provision, child protection, custody, law, social justice, systems advocacy, or a related field, or any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A Juris Doctorate degree is preferred; non-profit experience is helpful. Applicants must have a demonstrated understanding of policy development process; program development skills; exceptional written and oral communication skills; and the ability to work cooperatively across the FVD’s multiple efforts with staff, partner organizations, domestic violence advocacy groups, the judiciary, and FVD advisory committees and groups. This position requires the provision of national-level technical assistance, training, policy development, and publication production to the judiciary, as well as multi-disciplinary audiences on multiple projects across the FVD. Strong emphasis is on critical thinking; analytical ability; designing and coordinating meetings and projects; grant and report writing; curriculum development; and in-depth technical assistance and training provision. Applicants must have strong organizational skills with both a broad vision and attention to detail, comprehensive computer skills, and have a willingness and ability to travel nationwide. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF JUVENILE AND FAMILY COURT JUDGES POSITION DESCRIPTIONPOLICY ANALYST IIIPosition Summary Under supervision of professional personnel, evaluate current legal and social aspects of issues in relation to domestic violence, custody, child abuse, and other aspects of juvenile and family law. Heavy emphasis is on research, writing, analysis of data and various information, and designing and giving presentations in an adult education setting. The following generally describes the minimum education, experience, knowledge, and abilities required to enter the job and to perform the essential functions of this position. Position Requirements Undergraduate degree from an accredited university and at least four years of experience in child welfare, domestic violence, or juvenile/family law-related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a relevant field. An advanced degree is preferred. Non-profit experience and background in adult education is helpful. Working Environment Fast-paced, high-pressure, professional office environment. While performing the duties of this job, some extended sitting, stooping, standing, carrying, and occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. (with assistance) may be required. Must have the ability to read and analyze fine print for extended periods of time. Evening, weekend, holiday, and overtime work may be required. Travel, locally and nationally, is required.
