Image2/16/10 -- The nomination of NCJFCJ Past President Judge Susan Carbon of Concord, N.H., as Director of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate on Feb. 11, 2010.

Judge Carbon served as NCJFCJ president in 2007-08. A frequent presenter on domestic violence issues, Judge Carbon was instrumental in two recent major NCJFCJ projects, including chairing the national conference held in September 2006 on Domestic Violence and Firearms in Los Angeles, and chairing the project which produced the multidisciplinary Effective Issuance and Enforcement of Orders of Protection in Domestic Violence Cases (Burgundy Book), a document used throughout the country and U.S. territories to guide professionals in their work around civil protection orders.

According to NCJFCJ President Judge Douglas Johnson, “The NCJFCJ is pleased and proud that one of our own, Judge Sue Carbon, has been confirmed as the new Director of the Office on Violence Against Women. While we will miss her as a juvenile and family court judge, we look forward to continuing working with her and OVW to improve court systems response to child and family victims of domestic violence. We wish Judge Carbon the best in her new career and know she will continue to do excellent work.”
