4/9/10 -- The New Jersey Judiciary will host the 22nd conference and annual meeting of the National Consortium on Racial and Ethnic Fairness in the Courts, April 28-May 1, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, NJ. The 2010 conference, "Transformative Tools for Delivering Justice in the 21st Century," will highlight innovative and visionary court programs and practices from across the country that emerge from an institutional commitment to engage in ongoing self-critical examination of organizational operations in the daily work of enhancing access to justice for all court users. Of particular interest to NCJFCJ members may be the session on Friday, April 30, 2010 co-presented by Judge Sallyanne Floria, Judge Wadie Thomas, Jr., and Ms. Nancy Miller on minority disproportionality and disparities in child welfare and the Courts Catalyzing Change initiative.
The conference theme will be addressed through a broad range of topics across eight interrelated tracks: - minority participation in the judicial process;
- minority access to the courts;
- juvenile justice, child welfare, and the family;
- criminal justice and the minority defendant;
- education, outreach, and court-community partnerships;
- administration and programming;
- theory, research, and policymaking; and
- the use of technology as a vehicle for advancing access to justice.
