The NCJFCJ is celebrating the 5th annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. Wearing something purple on this day will show your support of ending elder abuse and neglect.
The NCJFCJ is actively involved in improving the judicial response to elder abuse cases recognizing that these types of cases can present themselves in family, civil, criminal, probate, and juvenile court. Since 2007, NCJFCJ's Family Violence Department has been convening the seminal Enhancing Judicial Skills in Elder Abuses Cases Workshops for tribal and state court judges across the country and territories. The next workshop is scheduled for Oct. 24-27, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ. Please visit www.njidv.org for details and to apply for this program. NCJFCJ Board Member Judge Katherine Tennyson of Multnomah County, OR, has been an active supporter of this issue and was instrumental in getting a proclamation adopted by her county's Board of Commissioners. National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life A project of the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence, this Web site provides a variety of resources about abuse in later life. Many of the documents are downloadable and several are in Spanish. Includes links to Web sites of interest to people working in the elder abuse field.
National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse The mission of NCPEA is to prevent abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older persons and adults with disabilities through research, advocacy, services, treatment, public and professional awareness, interdisciplinary exchange, and coalition building. NCPEA publishes the Journal of Elder Abuse and Neglect.
U.S. Administration on Aging Houses the National Center on Elder Abuse, which serves as a national resource center dedicated to the prevention of elder mistreatment. This site is aimed at older persons and their families, practitioners and other professionals, the aging network, and researchers and students. It includes funding alerts, fact sheets, statistics, Web links, and much more.
