Teen Drug Use Drops 11% between 2001 and 2003

Experts credit the efforts of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America/s focused and aggressive advertising and the Office of National Drug Control Policy support for the findings of the two recent surveys that report an overall drop in drug use from marijuana to methamphetamines for the second year in a row – a number with statistical significance. While this could be the beginning of a very good trend, there are also statistics in the Monitoring the Future study results among eighth graders that could foretell problems to come.

Children whose parents smoke could be exposed to significant levels of nicotine through tobacco smoke trapped in household dust. According to researchers at San Diego State University , children are exposed to equivalent of several hours of smoking through smoke particles in household dust.

CASA White Paper – You’ve Got Drugs! Prescription Drug Pushers on the Internet

This new white paper from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse reveals that dangerous and addictive controlled substances are easily available over the Internet without prescription to individuals of any age. The white paper was intended to be part of an exhaustive three-year study, but the threat to children uncovered as CASA examined the problem was too immediate to wait for the full study. This white paper is intended to alert parents, teachers and others of the grave risk that Internet drug pushers present to American children.
