Each of us who have the privilege to work in juvenile and family courts have perhaps but one duty: treat each child and family like one’s own. When we do that, children and families are respected, assisted, encouraged -- and they thrive. How humbling to be a part of such needed and gratifying work.
Don't tell anybody, but until I joined the NCJFCJ in 1994, I didn’t know how much I didn't know. Fortunately, faculty and staff were gentle and encouraging while teaching us at "The Role of the Judge - Summer College" how to be a better judge. They taught us about judicial leadership, court collaboration, systems reform, and various specialty services, all leading to a common goal--improving the lives and outcomes for children and families in our courts. I have kept close to the Council ever since. I know many of you do the same. We enjoy the best training, technical support, research, staff, and opportunities to get involved and make a difference. I am thankful to be a part of the NCJFCJ. I hope you are too. There is no better organization for our professional and personal support. Please grant me the favor of your continued support this year as NCJFCJ President. I will do my best to serve the Council, its mission, and its members. Please encourage your colleagues and others to join us as NCJFCJ members. (Membership information is available here.) Each of us offers an informed and valuable contribution at home and nationally as members of the country's oldest judicial organization. Thank you for all you do on behalf of children and families.
Hon. Douglas F. Johnson, President NCJFCJ
