1/18/06 -- NCJFCJ HONORS JUDGE WILLIAM DRESSEL AND DR. JAMES RICHARDSON The NCJFCJ recently recognized Judge William Dressel, President of the National Judicial College, and Dr. James Richardson, Director of the Grant Sawyer Center for Justice Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno, for their ongoing efforts in support of the NCJFCJ and the nation’s children and families. The recognition awards were presented on January 12, 2006 during the organization’s Mid-winter Board of Trustees meeting held in Sonoma, Calif. The NCJFCJ has worked closely with both Judge Dressel and Dr. Richardson for the past several years on a number of projects, particularly on the development of graduate programs in the field of juvenile and family justice for judges and non-judicial court professionals. Among the only such graduate programs for judges in the nation, the University of Nevada, Reno offers the Masters and Doctorate of Judicial Studies degree programs in cooperation with the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the National Judicial College. In 2005, UNR’s Board of Regents approved the new Master’s degree program in Justice Management for professionals working in the varied fields associated with the administration of justice. According to NCJFCJ Executive Director Mary V. Mentaberry, ”Dr. Richardson has been personally instrumental in moving forward the work of the NCJFCJ in Reno and in the State of Nevada. His support has been critical to our success locally. Judge Dressel is a colleague and supporter of the NCJFCJ, and our partnership with the National Judicial College in providing valuable education to judges across the nation brings recognition to the University, to Reno and to the State of Nevada.”
