Man-to-Man Sexual Assault Prevention Education Program

An all-male program that teaches young men how to control their behavior around women and to make good choices concerning the opposite sex. The goal of the program is to help participants understand the trauma of rape and to be less vulnerable to dating misunderstandings. Building Bridges Between the Healthy Marriage, Responsible Fatherhood, and Domestic Violence Movements: Issues, Concerns, and Recommendations

This CLASP (Center for Law and Social Policy) Policy Brief is the seventh publication in the Couples and Marriage research and policy brief series. Hotline to Help Teens Handle Dating Violence

The hotline will be run by the National Domestic Violence Hotline, which serves primarily adults. When fully functioning next year the hotline will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Teens will field calls from noon to 2 a.m. while young adults 18 to 24 will work overnight to serve college-age callers.

The Family Assessor Program

The Alabama Family Assessor Program is designed to help social workers recognize indicators of domestic violence. A screening tool is used to determine if domestic violence is present in the household. New rules were established for interviewing families and children about domestic violence. If domestic violence has been assessed and determined to be present everyone in the family will be interviewed separately and privately.

Engaging Respondents in Civil Restraining Orders: A New Approach to Victim Safety

This publication from the Vera Institute of Justice explores how the Dorchester Municipal Court in Massachusetts partnered with a non-profit agency to better engage respondents to reduce violations and violence following a request for a civil protection order. This publication is one part of a four-part series, the Judicial Oversight Demonstration Initiative. The other three parts are available for download or purchase and can been seen here too.

William Martin, chairman of the Alaska Suicide Prevention Council thinks he knows why Alaska Native villages tend to suffer waves of suicide. Martin says the problem is entwined with family violence, alcohol and drug use, and cultural disconnection. Approaches that address these broader issues are more effective. He praised the behavioral health aide program as an effective way to establish mental health services in distant communities.
