NCJFCJ to Co-sponsor Methamphetamine Training in Winnemucca, NV Print E-mail

6/15/07 -- A one-day training for professionals dealing with the problems resulting from the increasing use of methamphetamine will be held Friday, June 29, 2007, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Winnemucca Convention Center, 23 West 5th Street, Winnemucca, Nev. The NCJFCJ, in cooperation with the Sixth Judicial District Youth and Family Services and the Frontier Community Coalition, will present this free workshop for professionals in Northern Nevada who face the challenges caused by methamphetamine production, distribution and use.

Presenters will include:
• Dr. Melissa Piasecki, Forensic Psychiatrist at the University of Nevada, Reno’s medical school, who will discuss the medical and psychiatric aspects of meth addiction;
• Dr. Kevin Windisch, Pediatrician, who will present on children exposed to methamphetamine, both perinatally and in the home;
• Richard Rosky, Coordinator, HIDTA, Southwest National Meth and Chemical Initiative, who will cover issues concerning meth labs, production and distribution.

This training is presented at no charge, thanks to the Sixth Judicial District Juvenile Department and the Frontier Community Coalition. Continuing education credits have been approved for nurses (4.5), and are pending for social workers and drug and alcohol counselors.
