Letter of Interest Forms for June CANI now being accepted!

February 9, 2012

The Child Abuse and Neglect Institute was created in 1996 to provide training in dependency court best practices for judicial officers. This week-long program brings together national and local faculty to teach on core topics including hearing practice, child development, substance abuse, and cutting-edge court improvement developments, among other topics. Offered as a highly interactive in-residence training program, the CANI is aimed at judges who have been newly assigned to child abuse and neglect/dependency cases, or judges who have been presiding over these cases for some time and who want the latest information about best practice in this area. The CANI affords judges an opportunity to share their bench experiences and practice skills, as well as develop long-lasting collegial relationships, which support information-sharing well after participants have graduated from CANI.

This year, we are requesting a Letter of Interest form from all potential attendees/CIP representatives, which will assist us with final registration. You must submit the Letter of Interest form to be eligible for the CANI. We will make every effort to accommodate your registration request(s) but cannot guarantee space for all requests.  Please note the important dates below.

Space is limited to 50 participants and applications will be reviewed with an eye towards keeping CANI geographically diverse by enrolling participants from across theUS.  NCJFCJ anticipates hosting additional CANIs in 2012 and beyond. If you are not able to participate in the Reno CANI, you may be able to participate in another CANI, location TBD.

CANI will be held June 11-15, 2012, in Reno, Nevada. The conference will begin Monday, June 11 at approximately 8:00 am and will continue through early Friday afternoon, June 15. Once confirmed, you will receive information on hotel registration and additional program/logistics information.  We are in the process of finalizing the registration/activities fee and expect it to be the same or close to last year’s fee ($695.)

When deciding on your availability to attend this innovative, intensive, five-day training, please consider that CANI is most effective when you participate each day. If you are unable to commit to attending the full program, please contact us now to discuss future CANI opportunities.  We regret that NCJFCJ is unable to offer scholarships for the 2012 CANI.
