June 12, 2012

On Monday evening, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) celebrated its 75th Anniversary with a champagne reception held at the University of Nevada, Reno. Nearly 100 friends of the NCJFCJ, including staff members, colleagues, and supporters were in attendance to raise a glass and toast a rich, 75-year history.

Long-time NCJFCJ member and supporter, Judge Deborah Schumacher of the Second Judicial District Court in Reno, Nev., welcomed guests and gave a brief overview of advancements in the juvenile justice and family law fields highlighting the past 75 years. She touched on current NCJFCJ initiatives including demonstration pilot sites, training, and outreach on the local, state, and national levels and expressed her opitimism for the future of the organization.

NCJFCJ Chief Executive Officer, Mari Kay Bickett, followed Judge Schumacher, thanking those who have supported the organization throughout its history and recognized some of the guests in attendance including representatives from Senator Reid, Senator Heller, and Congressman Amodei’s offices; many distinguished faculty and friends from UNR including Ron Zurek and Jim Richardson; Bill Dressel with the National Judicial College; and several local business partners along with the many judges from across the country.

Ms. Bickett closed the evening by inviting all in attendance to join her in a toast to the relationships formed in the state of Nevada that have helped the NCJFCJ make such immense progress, honoring all who have contributed to the organization's mission and vision, and to continued support and collaboration for years to come. Here's to the next 75!
