NCJFCJ Leadership Opportunity!

Apply to serve on the Board of Directors of the premier national organization that serves children, families, and victims of domestic violence in the court system.

During the NCJFCJ Annual Conference each July, the Nominating Committee is charged with recommending the slate of judicial candidates to serve a three-year term on the Board of Directors. The candidates are chosen from active judicial members who submit applications to serve as Directors. The election of judicial Directors takes place at the General Business Meeting of the Membership during the Annual Conference.

If you are interested in applying for a judicial Director position, we encourage you to talk with one of our current Directors to discuss serving on the Board and ask any questions you may have. Email to make a connection!

Read the following for qualifications, considerations, and important application information/timelines.  Please verify your eligibility before submitting an application.

  • Applicant must be a current, Active NCJFCJ member in good standing for at least one (1) full year at the time of application
  • Applicant must be sitting as a judicial officer at the time of application for his or her first term as a Director
  • Applicant must have previously attended an Annual Conference or equivalent Council event (Juvenile Justice Conference, NJIDV, CANI, etc.) in any capacity (e.g., participant, faculty, observer) within the last three (3) years
  • Applicant must have submitted a completed application in a time and manner prescribed by the Nominating Committee (see below)
  • Applicant must certify that he or she will comply with the Individual Responsibilities of a Director, as outlined in Article IV.C of the Bylaws and the Standards of Conduct as currently issued by the Board of Directors
  • In addition, the Nominating Committee will consider addtional relevant factors, including but not limited to:
    • Participation on NCJFCJ Committees
    • Drafting of articles or publications
    • Serving as faculty at conferences or workshops
    • Diversity in all its forms including race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religion, age, disability status, profession, geopgraphy, and jurisdiction; and commitment to the principles of the Council's Diversity Policy Statement
    • Attributes of collaborative leadership, seeking and valuing work with a diverse group of people with varied expertise
    • Financial support of the organization
  • Any person seeking nomination for a first term as a Director shall provide the names of two Active members as references, which may not be any member of the Nominating Committee.

  • The deadline for submitting an application for the 2017 election is no later than 11:59 p.m. Pacific time, on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
  • Application materials must include:
    • a cover letter addressed to the Hon. Louis Trosch, Chair of the Nominating Committee expressing your interest in applying for a position on the Board
    • a copy of your current resume or curriculum vitae

  • Once all materials have been received and eligibility is confirmed by NCJFCJ staff, you will be contacted regarding an appointment to interview with the Nominating Committee on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, DC (please visit for more information).
  • It is very important to plan to arrive at the Grand Hyatt Hotel before 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, at which time all candidates will meet as a group with the Nominating Committee.  This will be followed by private interviews with individual candidates during the day, and another group meeting at the end of the day to receive the results of the Committee's deliberations.
  • The slate will be voted on and new Directors will take the oath of office during the General Business Meeting of the Membership on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
  • If elected to the Board of Directors, you are expected to attend a short Introduction Meeting on Wednesday, July 19 in Washington, DC. Departing travel should be scheduled for Wednesday afternoon to allow for attendance at this meeting.
