Join us in Chicago, Illinois for this year's 77th Annual Conference featuring a wide range of juvenile and family law topics including child abuse and neglect, trauma, custody and visitation, judicial leadership, juvenile justice, sex trafficking of minors, family violence, drug courts, psychotropic medications, children testifying in court, detention alternatives, substance abuse, and the adolescent brain.   

In addition, this year we are offering a preconference workshop, Special Consideration for Working with Adolescents with Substance Abuse Issuesdesigned for professionals working with juvenile justice involved youth who also have mental health, substance abuse, or trauma issues. Any juvenile court judges, juvenile drug court coordinators, attorneys, probation officers, case managers, and substance abuse treatment counselors are encouraged to attend. OVW Grantees: Grantees from the Office on Violence Against Women's (OVW) Courts, Legal Assistance for Victims, Rural Housing, and State Coalition Grant Programs have been conditionally approved to attend this conference. Grantees from the aforementioned programs are required to contact their OVW program specialist to get approval specific to their award and to ensure that a Grant Adjustment Notice (GAN) is issued. A GAN must be completed before grantees expend any funds related to attending this conference. Supervised Visitation and STOP grantees may be invited to attend without prior approval from their Grant Manager. Supervised Visitation grantees can send no more than 2 participants to the conference. The reference number for this conference is OVW-2014-MU-010. This number must be used by grantees when requesting approval via a GAN or in their “memo to the file”.  This approval and assigned reference number is for this conference only.  

Cancellation Policy: The NCJFCJ will not deny admission to any program because of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, disability or religion. The NCJFCJ reserves the right to limit, cancel and/or refund registration on a case-by-case basis should circumstances require. Cancellations for conference registration must be made prior to June 13, 2014 for a full refund. Cancellations received after June 14th and before July 13th will incur a $100 administrative fee. No cancellations for refund will be accepted after the start of the conference.

The Art Institute of Chicago Tour

Find and lose yourself at the Art Institute of Chicago! The guided tour is an hour long, but you may continue exploring on your own after the tour is over. Meet fellow art enthusiasts in the hotel lobby for a short walk over to the Institute. Tickets are limited and cost $33. (Please note: This tour runs concurrently with the Monday morning workshops and is meant for guests only.)

Eat and Compete NCJFCJ Iron Chef Style!

We’re turning things up a notch! This interactive culinary dining experience at Kendall College will not only whet a distinguished foodie’s palate, but will also bring on a bit of competitive culinary fun! The schedule includes an hors d’oeuvres reception along with chef demonstration, NCJFCJ Cupcake Wars where teams will make cupcakes and compete for honors to be presented at the end of the evening, dinner with wine pairing, and finally the NCJFCJ Cupcake Award Masters’ Presentation. $80 includes transportation, food and wine pairing, and dinner. We’ll meet in the hotel lobby.

Installation Dinner
Tuesday - July 15  6:00 - 9:00 p.m.œ
Join the NCJFCJ as it installs newly-elected Officers and Board of Trustee members and Judge Peggy Walker as President for the 2014/2015 year. The cost is $85 per person. Dress is semi-formal.

Expected Attendance: 
More than 600 attendees, including registered participants, faculty, committee members, etc., are expected at this conference. Judges who hear juvenile and family law cases are expected to make up approximately 60 percent of participants, with the remainder being attorneys, administrators, and court personnel. However, others working in the field of juvenile and family justice as also welcome to attend. More than 35 exhibitors representing a wide-range of services to the juvenile and family justice field are also expected to attend.
