Judicial Engagement in JJDPA Compliance
Thursday, April 3, 2025
3:00PM – 4:00PM PST

Youth Charged as Adults: Compliance with the JJDPA’s Core Requirements – Until 2018, the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act permitted minors who were charged in adult court to be held in adult facilities. That changed with the Juvenile Justice Reform Act, which required youth who were awaiting trial in adult court to only be placed in juvenile facilities. An exception to this was applied if a judge found that it was in the interest of justice to hold the young person in an adult facility. Join us for a conversation with compliance experts from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention about what juvenile court judges should know as states work on compliance with these provisions, commonly referred to as (11)(b). This conversation will include an opportunity for question and answers.

Faculty for this webinar will be:

Hon. David Hejmanowski, Delaware County Juvenile Court, Ohio

Didier Moncion, Program Manager (Compliance), State and Tribal Relations Assistance Division, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

William Harper, Program Manager (Compliance), State and Tribal Relations Assistance Division, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
