This OJJDP Fact Sheet provides statistical information about the use of detention in delinquency caseloads handled by juvenile courts between 1989 and 1998. Specifically,it examines national trends in the number of delinquency cases involving detention, the detention population (both in terms of race and age), and the use of detention by juvenile courts.
