News / ICWA Blog / Tulsa Co. (Oklahoma) ICWA Court Kickoff

“On Thursday, November 9th, the Oklahoma Indian Child Welfare Association [OICWA] hosted a Kick Off Meeting to celebrate the launch of Tulsa County ICWA Court. The meeting occurred in person and virtually with attendees from Oklahoma Tribal Child Welfare Programs, Tulsa County Court, Oklahoma Department of Human Services, and other valued partners and service providers. This event recognizes the historic importance of Oklahoma’s first ICWA court and the positive impact it will have on cases involving American Indian children and families.” [OICWA Facebook post on December 14, 2021]

Congratulations to Judge Martha Rupp-Carter, Tulsa Juvenile Court for coordinating a specialized ICWA Court to capture the “gold standard for child welfare” for Indian children and families.
Oklahoma state Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) was passed in 1982 as the first state comprehensive ICWA laws in the country.
