Virtual ICWA Court Collaborative III on October 4, 2021

News / ICWA Blog / Virtual ICWA Court Collaborative III on October 4, 2021

The Virtual ICWA Court Collaborative III was well attended on October 4th, 2021. We had over 140 people registered for the event and representatives from almost all 16 ICWA Courts. We have grown from the first gathering in 2018 with only 5 ICWA Courts and are still growing, so many of you have been and are so generous with your time and knowledge to meet with new jurisdictions. Thank you.

This is an active movement that has been fueled by dedicated Tribal workers, compassionate advocates, solution oriented social workers, and problem solving judicial leaders. Among the many other people.

We all can take something from the powerful presentation from Professor Vivek Sankaran, about “Compassionate Lawyering” and providing his principles of relationship advocacy: 1) proximate with people; 2) preventive lawyering; 3) proactive problem-solving; 4) prioritize relationships; and 5) project compassion. These approaches can have an immediate impact for children and families.

Na’ese to Pascua Yaqui Tribe for being our virtual host. And great partnership with Casey Family Programs.
