Applicants are encouraged to complete the application above. Chosen participants will have the opportunity to engage in honest conversations about what it means to be a judicial officer while developing the practical tools necessary to avoid burnout and nurture personal resilience. The program is designed to support the process of increasing a judge’s quality of life on and off the bench.

To enrich the experience and create an environment which stimulates discussion and reflection, this training will be limited to six judicial officers. Beltane Ranch is a rustic setting offering quality lodging/meals where disconnecting from electronic devices is encouraged.

Why Attend a Symposium on Wellness?

As a judicial officer, you are viewed as a leader in your community. How, when, and in what manner you exercise your leadership role is up to you. To be a more effective leader, you need to have balance in your life as you navigate through the stressors and pressures inherent in your work. To better achieve a sense of equilibrium, people need practical tools that they can access at any moment, in addition to a support system. This symposium is designed to start the process of providing both.

Included Curriculum in the NCJFCJ Symposium:

  • Effective Leadership Styles
  • How to have Uncomfortable and Hard Conversations
  • Avoiding and Resolving Conflict
  • Understanding Emotions
  • Polyvagal Theory as a Tool of Regulating Emotional States
  • Using Breath work and Movement to regulate the body
  • Research Based Mindfulness Practices
  • Developing Empathy and Compassion in the Judicial Setting
  • The judge’s role is to serve the public in terms of community outreach and leadership
  • Connecting to Diverse Communities: how judges influence the view of the justice system
