This report offers a discussion of the assessment of detained youth in Pennsylvania, with the Massachusetts Youth Screening Instrument – Second Version, or MAYSI-2. MAYSI-2 is currently being administered to all new admissions at 10 juvenile detention centers in connection with the Mental Health Assessment Project, an effort to gather information on the mental health status of Pennsylvania’s youth in detention and improve facilities’ handling of mental health issues.
