Judicial Tip Sheet on Kinship Care

Resources / Bench Card / Judicial Tip Sheet on Kinship Care

In an effort to promote the importance of placing children with family members, a one page tip sheet for judicial officers on kinship care was created in partnership with the American Bar Association and the Annie E. Casey Foundation (AECF). The tip sheet addresses four main points: 1) the importance of kin, 2) the identification of kin, 3) the role of the court, and 4) licensing issues. The tip sheet was reviewed by NCJFCJ board directors and AECF Kinship Advisors, who indicated a clear support of the sheet and its value as a resource for new judges who may not be familiar with the benefits of kinship care and as a useful reminder for more experienced judges. This resource will also be available at Grandfamilies.org.
