This fact sheet is based on 1-day counts of the juvenile placement population from the Census of Juveniles in Residential Placement and the Juvenile Residential Facility Census. The data show that the number of juvenile offenders in residential placement in publicly and privately operated juvenile facilities has declined steadily since 2000.
