Firearms-related injuries are the number one cause of death for children in the United States, and access to a firearm is the greatest risk factor for homicide in domestic violence cases. In Nevada, 45 domestic violence-related deaths were recorded for 2025 alone. When concerns around firearms arise in divorce, custody, and civil protection order cases, what can judges and court teams do to enhance safety for Nevada families? This virtual event for Nevada judicial officers and court staff will focus on opportunities to address firearms and safety in family law and protection order cases. It will also feature discussions with judges from jurisdictions outside of Nevada about how they have incorporated similar opportunities in their own dockets.
