Approximately 5% of youth in the United States ages 12 to 17 carry a firearm each year, according to national surveys of risk behavior by youth. In 2025, about 10% of youth arrests for a violent crime in Nevada involved a firearm at the time of arrest. This webinar introduces judges presiding over juvenile delinquency dockets to innovative judicial and court strategies that balance accountability with a preventive approach that involves collaboration with legal system and community partners to identify and intervene with young people most at risk for gun violence. Participants will learn about approaches from other jurisdictions that may be tailored to Nevada courts’ specific needs.
