Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe (Port Angeles, Washington) –

On October 17, 2023 the Clallam County ICWA Court brought together ICWA practitioners to learn together and strategize on how to improve the outcomes of Indian families. “Pulling Stronger Together” was the theme of this event and the conference more than achieved it for the more than 50 attendees at the gathering.

The Clallam County ICWA Court is presided over by Commissioner Elizabeth Stanley, who took over the court this past year. This event did highlight the collaboration of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, Lummi Indian Tribe, and Central Council of Tlingit and Haida (Alaska).

One of the highlights of the conference was the gifting of the Port Gamble S’Klallam tribal flag to the Clallam ICWA Court by Joylina Gonzales to Commissioner Stanley for the other Tribal Nation flags in the courtroom. Many ICWA Courts are proponents of respect and inclusion by choosing to display Tribal sovereignty in their court space for Indian families, Tribes, and the public to see.

Congratulations on the great event Clallam County ICWA Court!
