Wisconsin Judge Ramona Gonzalez, a past president of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, spoke to ProPublica for a story on a domestic violence and the Wisconsin model where fathers are treated as equal caregivers when parents separate. She is among those who believe family courts should respond more effectively. The emphasis by courts on shared parenting does not work in cases involving “coercive, controlling people,” said Gonzalez, who is based in La Crosse.
