News / NCJFCJ News / The New York Times, Backpage’s Sex Ads Are Gone. Child Trafficking? Hardly.

Backpage, a classified advertising website that had become the largest marketplace for buying and selling sex was shut down but the fight against child sex trafficking continues.

A woman, who at the time was 14-years-old, explains how she was sold for sex via Backpage. Her story is not an isolated occasion. Backpage ads included code words to let buyers know which were selling children.

Since authorities successfully shut down this website, it’s become more complicated to get tips on those trafficking children and street prostitution has seen a rise.

Hear from child sex trafficking experts including Victoria Sweet, a lawyer for the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges.

Timothy William reports this story for the New York Times.
