This report, updated for 2011, briefly discusses state provisions for the parental obligation of monetary support for institutionalized delinquent children. All states currently have statutes that make it either discretionary or mandatory for the court to require a parent or guardian to pay at least part of the support costs for a juvenile who is adjudicated delinquent and placed outside the home.
